About The Artist

A former professor of sociology and college administrator at both Antioch College, Yellow Springs, OH and Iona College, New Rochelle, NY, Friedman came to the medium of clay by chance, when he attended a 'primitive firing' by raku artist Hal Riegger.

After Friedman’s retirement in 1997, he attended ceramic workshops in hand-building and the wheel at the Penland School of Arts, Penland NC,

Arrowmont School, Gatlinburg TN, the Odyssey Center for the Arts, Asheville NC, Greenwich House, NY, Governor's Island, NY, and Collabo-rative Concepts, Saunders Farm, Garrison NY.

He has worked with leading artists in the field, including Suze Lindsey, Chuck Hines, Debra Fritts, Louise Radochonsky, Jeff Shapiro and Paul Luccessi. In 2006, he developed an interest in painting.

Self-taught, Bob Friedman honed his art further with workshops in Savannah, GA, New York's Salmagundi Club and non-instructional drawing sessions with live models. He is currently

a student at Art Students League, New York City.
